Training programme on “Food processing as an option for entrepreneurship development” under ABI
A seven days training programme entitled “Food processing as an option for entrepreneurship development” was successfully organized in the Division of Horticulture, ICAR Research complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya during 12 to 18th September, 2018 which was sponsored under the Institute’ ABI (Agri-Business Incubation). There was a participation of 18 agripreneurs (8 female and 10 male) in total from Meghalaya (West Garo Hills, West Khasi Hills and East Khasi Hills) and Manipur. The objective of this training was to address the processing skills by imparting hands-on training on value addition, of horticultural crops in particular. Lectures and practical demonstrations were covered on the aspects of drying and dehydration, preserves, juices, pickling, packaging and labelling. Most of the trainees were progressive agripreneurs and this training refined their already existing knowledge and skills, of both processing and marketing skills. Training certificate, training manual and inputs (packaging materials and food grade preservatives) were also distributed to the trainees. The training was coordinated by Drs. SR Assumi, MB Devi, NA Deshmukh, A Mukherjee, AK Jha and G Kadirvel.
